Horror # 9: Don’t Try This at Home

Winding 1

File this under Activities Which Are Not Recommended:  Winding a 1750 yard skein with a swift that isn’t quite big enough.  It is not the best way to have a pleasant morning.

Make it how? Outlook doubtful for getting that into a single ball without pulling it off the ballwinder and doing the end manually…

So – how many balls did you end up with?

Nope. No way. You will be forced to break the yarn. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

You’ll have to excuse me, but I couldn’t stop laughing at this one. That is going to one big-ass ball of yarn.
What’s the yarn by the way? I think I have something in the stash that looks like that.

Hehe…looks scary. I wound 1300+ yards of laceweight yesterday; it’s shocking how small the final ball was.
I have to say, though, even when the swift is plenty big, winding 1700 yards of anything is no fun.

Hey, why didn’t you just come over and use my swift and ball winder?
